About The Position

Works with Cherokee Nation service departments, Cherokee Nation administration and local, regional and national media to protect, promote and preserve the positive image of the Cherokee Nation and its citizens. Responds to social media inquiries, contributes to message development and collaborates on proactive social media strategy development and analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, or related field; no substitutions.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Database software, Design software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting.
  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Proficient and up to date with current social media skills and tactics.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of crisis communication procedures.
  • Knowledge of AP Style is a must.

Nice To Haves

  • Smartphone photo and video editing skills preferred.
  • Adobe Photoshop skills preferred.
  • Skills in Public Relations distribution software (such as Meltwater, Vocus, etc. preferred.
  • Working knowledge of newsroom environment preferred.
