About The Position

This is a short-term backfill position to provide coverage during a leave. The position is currently expected to end on July 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The Coordinator of Volunteers will coordinate all volunteer programs and opportunities within the Centre, implement Centre volunteer policies and procedures, and identify areas requiring review and/or revision. This role involves recruitment, interviewing, screening, orientation, placement, training, supervision, evaluation, and recognition of all volunteers. The coordinator will also prepare and update written materials for volunteers, maintain statistical records and volunteer files, schedule volunteers, and communicate with Centre staff regarding volunteer programs. Additionally, the role includes promoting awareness of volunteers, writing reports, providing updates on volunteer plans and incidents, staying informed about volunteer management trends, participating in committees, and ensuring work reflects the mission, beliefs, values, and goals of VSAC. A strong understanding of diversity issues and trauma-informed, anti-oppressive practice is essential.

Requirements

  • Certificate in Volunteer Management and/or relevant post-secondary degree or the equivalent skills and knowledge gained from related experience and training.
  • Volunteer management and administration experience in the community social services sector preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles of volunteerism and adult education including personal experiences as a volunteer.
  • Understanding of issues surrounding sexual violence.
  • Completion of the Sexual Assault Response Team training is an asset.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated program coordination, development and evaluation skills.
  • Demonstrated public relations and media skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to screen and provide feedback to volunteers.
  • Proficient use of word processing program including the ability to produce documents, flyers, tables, etc.
  • Highly motivated individual able to demonstrate the initiative necessary to significantly enhance and expand the volunteer and program development within the Centre.
  • Participation at meetings, training or other volunteer events involving evening and weekend work.
  • Strong understanding of trauma informed, anti-oppressive practice and inclusive frameworks and demonstrated ability to use these frameworks to implement communications and training materials.
  • Strong understanding of intersectional analysis of sexualized violence.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, all volunteer programs/opportunities within the Centre. Implements Centre volunteer policies and procedures and identifies areas requiring review and/or revision.
  • Coordinates recruitment, interviewing, screening, orientation, appropriate placement, training, supervision, evaluation and recognition of all volunteers.
  • Coordinates training and provides ongoing training for volunteers.
  • Prepares, distributes and updates written materials to guide volunteers in performing their duties. Maintains statistical records and volunteer files.
  • Schedules volunteers in all of the volunteer programs and facilitates and/or attends volunteer meetings.
  • Maintains communication with Centre staff regarding the volunteer programs. Works in collaboration with Clinic and Access Coordinator and Access and SART Workers to support volunteers and ensure coordinated support for clients.
  • Promotes awareness regarding volunteers in Centre publications, in-house newsletters, etc.
  • Writes related reports as requested by Program Managers, for funders, newsletters, etc.
  • Provides written and verbal updates regarding volunteer plans, progress and unusual circumstances/critical incidents.
  • Maintains awareness of current issues in the field of volunteer management through reading, professional development and other activities.
  • Participates in various committees, working groups, etc.
  • Participates constructively as a member of the staff team, with supervisors, the Program Managers, Executive Director and Centre as a whole.
  • Ensures work performed reflects mission, beliefs, values and goals of VSAC.
  • Responsible for developing a sound understanding of diversity issues, in order to appropriately identify and respond to the needs of clients, staff and volunteers.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
