About The Position

This position supports the operation of the GVSU Tutoring & Reading Center (TRC), a comprehensive peer tutoring and supplemental instruction program. The role co-leads a team of peer tutors and support staff, coordinating and delivering academic support to students individually and in groups. Additionally, this position assists in collaborating with campus partners to develop, enhance, and implement a broad range of tutoring programs and services designed to promote student success and improve retention. The TRC is a part of the Knowledge Market, located within University Libraries & Art Museum, and serves all colleges at GVSU.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree, preferably in a higher education field such as Student Affairs, Adult and Higher Education, Educational Leadership, or College Student Development.
  • One to three (1–3) years of experience in learning needs assessment, tutoring, or academic support services; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency in using technology systems such as Microsoft Office Suite and EAB Navigate (or comparable tutoring/academic support software).
  • Demonstrated experience in training and public speaking, supported by coursework and/or professional experience.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities simultaneously.
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience with student employees and support staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Workday and EAB Navigate (or similar systems).

Responsibilities

  • Support the mission, vision, and goals for the TRC, and Knowledge Market as a whole, to provide equitable, inclusive, and effective tutoring services for all students.
  • Use data to make informed staffing decisions to ensure adequate and responsible coverage for the Tutoring and Reading Center, addressing a wide range of subject areas and disciplines.
  • Coordinate and manage the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation of peer tutors.
  • Assist the Administrative Lead in promoting the TRC and Supplemental Instruction through campus partnerships and marketing initiatives.
  • Assist the leadership in assessing the effectiveness of tutoring services, including the development and analysis of student surveys, usage reports, progress reports, and impact studies.
  • Provide support to the Supplemental Instruction program and facilitators as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
