About The Position

The Coordinator of Student Programs & Initiatives supports the planning, coordination, and operational execution of student engagement initiatives that enhance the student experience at Johnston Community College. This position focuses on providing administrative, logistical, and operational support for student activities, events, and student initiatives within the Office of Student Engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One to three years of experience working with a diverse student population, or other relevant experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Independently prepare correspondence and written materials related to assigned activities.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Understand, interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with administrative and office policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva or other design program, as well as social media management tools.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, marketing, business, communications, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of student activities, events, leadership programs, and engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary logistics administrator for Student Engagement events, including scheduling, vendor communication, setup, breakdown, and event support.
  • Execute and facilitate the planning and implementation of Welcome Week, First-Year Programing, leadership retreats, campus traditions, student appreciation events, and other student-centered programs.
  • Support the daily operations of the Office of Student Engagement, including calendars, timelines, forms, purchasing requests, and event planning processes.
  • Maintain inventories of event supplies, promotional materials, giveaways, and engagement resources.
  • Develop and execute marketing and communication strategies to promote student engagement programs, events, and initiatives through various campus communication platforms.
  • Provide operational support and guidance to student organizations, Student Government Association, leadership groups, and campus clubs.
  • Track student participation, event attendance, and program outcomes to support departmental assessment and planning efforts.
  • Assist with vendor onboarding, purchasing processes, budget tracking, and event-related financial documentation.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and divisional partners to enhance student involvement and create engaging campus experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to improve student engagement processes, event operations, and overall student experience.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, scheduling, and daily supervision of student employees and/or work-study students in support of Student Engagement programs, services, and operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
