About The Position

This position focuses on the development, supervision, and risk management of outdoor recreation programs. The Coordinator will recruit, train, and supervise student and part-time staff, develop program training manuals with a focus on safety and risk management, and implement student development programs. Responsibilities include planning and executing outdoor programs, managing trip logistics, assessing risks, preparing equipment, and briefing participants. The role also involves collecting and reporting data from program evaluations, promoting operating policies, and collaborating with other departments to develop new programs. Financial and administrative duties include budget development and monitoring, maintaining inventory records, serving on committees, managing payroll, and ensuring adherence to risk management and safety protocols. The Coordinator will also provide feedback on program safety, document and address concerns, and may operate a state vehicle.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, supervise, coach, mentor and evaluate student and other part-time staff (approximately 50 staff on an annual basis).
  • Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions for each assigned area including awareness and compliance with all University policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of program training manuals and materials including safety and risk management practices to meet national standards and University policy.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive student development program.
  • Communicate job responsibilities and expectations for student employees.
  • Plan, develop, schedule, and implement assigned programming, including trip logistics, assessing location-specific risk management, prepping equipment, and briefing student staff and participants as needed.
  • Compiles qualitative and quantitative data from post-trip evaluations; provides and maintains reports used in assessment of programmatic quality and goals.
  • Promote operating policies and procedures for use in assigned programs.
  • Enforce University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other units within RecSports and on campus to develop new and relevant programs.
  • Promote programs by coordinating with marketing & outreach to advertise programs.
  • Develop the operational budgets for assigned programs.
  • Monitor budgets throughout the year and assist with quarterly reporting.
  • Maintain proper inventory records.
  • Serve as an active member on committees, work teams, and other global efforts within the Department of Recreational Sports.
  • Prepare and manage bi-weekly payroll and wage schedules and reports.
  • Ensure Risk Management & Safety protocol are utilized appropriately within all assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor regarding the safety and/or condition of programs, equipment, and facilities; conduct daily observations and/or use said equipment and facilities; immediately document and address all safety concerns; and operate a state vehicle as needed.
