About The Position

A core area of ministerial responsibility for the High School Youth Ministry Coordinator (HSYMC) is the active development and engagement of a comprehensive evangelization and catechetical formation process. The HSYMC is responsible for the development, coordination, supervision and execution of parish programs designed to engage and educate the youth of the parish. He or she will act as an advocate and link for youth and their families to the youth ministry team, the parish family, and the surrounding community.

Requirements

  • Must be a Roman Catholic in good-standing who is actively participating in a Catholic parish faith community.
  • At least three years of ministerial experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning.

Responsibilities

  • Engages an active discipleship process that fosters an interior conversion to Christ and His Church.
  • Seeks to draw young people to responsible and active participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
  • Promotes active participation in the sacramental life of the Church, especially the Mass, Confession and adoration.
  • Facilitates the development of community among young people, their families, their parish and the local community.
  • Supports families in their role of promoting healthy adolescent development and faith growth.
  • Assures that all legal, moral, and Diocesan responsibilities are provided for within the context of the youth program.
  • Is informed of and adheres to Church policies, local, state and federal laws pertaining to abuse to minors.
  • Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current with trends in Youth Ministry.
  • Proven participation and continuing updating of the Safe Environment Program sponsored through the diocese.
  • Adheres to the policies and guidelines of the parish employee handbook.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.
  • Develops and implements sound evangelization and catechetical curriculums in the area of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, liturgy and sacraments, moral life and prayer.
  • Makes certain all events and programs reflect sound Catholic doctrine in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Provides for and participates in ongoing education opportunities.
  • Facilitates the planning, implementation and evaluation of department goals.
  • Specific catechetical formation through the approved Diocesan catechist formation process through the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis (DEC).
  • Develops opportunities for youth to be visibly present and involved with the larger parish community.
  • Recruits teen and adult leaders to be disciples (i.e. active witnesses of the Gospel in all areas of service to youth).
  • Facilitates the training and support of all faith formation leaders.
  • Supervision and catechetical instruction related to all youth ministry staff. Leads the core team(s) and catechists in planning and coordinating programs and services.
  • Insures that all volunteers have received appropriate Safe Environment training and adhere to all Safe Environment policies.
  • Demonstrates capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship skills.
  • Promotes the formation of youth and adult leaders.
  • Develops a comprehensive process of formation and training in the areas of evangelization and catechesis for all volunteers.
  • Plans, advertises and executes ministry events and retreats.
  • Develops job descriptions and recruitment processes for volunteers.
  • Effectively provides communication to youth, the parish, and community regarding activities and events.
  • Oversees records and information pertinent to the department such as membership lists, resource materials, event information, etc.
  • Represents the needs of youth to the DEC and through the DEC to the pastor and community.
  • Works as part of a team in a comprehensive Youth Ministry program including collaborating with the Elementary Coordinator.
  • Develops and monitors a budget in collaboration with the DEC and business manager.
  • Attends and actively participates at parish staff meetings and events, Safe Environment Committee meetings, Diocesan gatherings, and related activities.
  • Keeps open lines of communication with other members of the parish staff regarding any items of concern or interest.
  • Makes certain that parish property is respected and appropriately used.
