About The Position

The Coordinator of Athletic Equipment and Event Operations at Emory University is responsible for leading facility operations for the Woodruff PE Center (WPEC), including equipment room management, facility supervision, and student staff management. This full-time, twelve-month position reports to the Assistant Director for Facilities & Events and plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of athletic and recreation programs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in sport management, physical education, recreation/leisure administration, higher education, or related field.
  • One year of related experience in varsity athletics equipment room and/or athletic event experience.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the athletics equipment manager and primary event manager for select home athletic contests.
  • Supervise all equipment services, including receiving, cleaning, repair, maintenance, and inventory of intercollegiate and recreation equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all varsity and recreation equipment.
  • Oversee the issuance, collection, and storage of all equipment.
  • Prepare equipment and clothing for travel and home games.
  • Oversee the student-athlete uniform laundry and loop system.
  • Communicate with head coaches, assistant coaches, and events staff regarding schedules, uniform care, and team needs.
  • Maintain washers and dryers and order necessary chemicals.
  • Perform periodic checks on machines to ensure good working order.
  • Analyze equipment serviceability and performance, advising coaches and staff.
  • Act as a liaison with purchasing departments, sporting goods dealers, and staff.
  • Purchase athletic and recreation equipment for varsity athletics and recreation general use.
  • Supervise all aspects of game day management for select home athletic contests.
  • Oversee physical setup and breakdown for all intercollegiate contests.
  • Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for events, including lining and striping.
  • Communicate with visiting teams and officials on game day operations and university protocols.
  • Abide by all NCAA, conference, and institutional eligibility regulations and NCAA Principles of Ethical Conduct.
  • Collaborate on the development of game management policies and procedures, equipment organization, staff training, and contest operations.
  • Identify and communicate facilities issues to the Associate Director of Athletic Facilities.
  • Assist with coordination of summer camps, clinics, and internal/external rentals.
  • Assist with the supervision and training of student staff.
  • Present an atmosphere of out-of-classroom learning for student employees and participants.
  • Focus on the development of student leadership, customer service, decision making, and communication.
  • Serve on NCAA host management team as needed.
  • Attend departmental and divisional meetings as necessary.
  • Serve in an on-call function to support operations at the facilities.
  • Serve as a department ranking staff member on duty for recreation and athletic facilities and operations, including serving as a first responder for emergency situations and providing emergency care, customer service, conflict resolution, and decision-making regarding program and facility usage.
  • Ensure involvement with Athletic & Recreation Department activities maintains the integrity of the University's reputation and does not negatively impact relationships with faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
  • Comply with university policies and procedures, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
