About The Position

To coordinate the District's student and school safety operations to establish a school environment which is emotionally and physically safe and conducive to learning, including bullying and violence prevention, intervention, and response; and site safety, emergency/disaster preparedness, and security threat procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Safety and Security or related field or equivalent combination of education, experience and training in student and school safety desirable
  • Knowledge, experience, and recognized training related to bullying and violence prevention/intervention strategies, programs, and implementation
  • Knowledge, experience, and recognized training in school safety planning and procedures, including crisis preparedness, mitigation, and response, and school safety laws
  • Experience developing and conducting professional development/training
  • Ability to prepare reports, maintain records, interpret and explain laws and procedures, evaluate data, and make decisions and recommendations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide leadership and direction
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain positive relationships with employees, students, parents, and other individuals outside the District
  • Valid California driver's license and personal car for use on District business

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates District's student and school safety program, including but not limited to bullying and violence prevention, intervention, and response programs, conflict management, gang risk intervention, hate-violence motivated behavior, and campus supervision
  • Reviews and analyzes school safety data, including but not limited to data from student and staff surveys, school discipline, threat assessments, law enforcement and CALPADS
  • Coordinates District's emergency/disaster preparedness and response, school safety, security, and access procedures; ensures District compliance with applicable laws
  • Develops and provides professional development/training regarding active supervision, bullying and violence prevention, intervention, and response, implementation of a school safety plan, safe school strategies, crisis response, and safety exercises
  • Collaborates with administrators, safety officials, campus supervisors, cafeteria playground activity leaders, parents, and students, law enforcement, and other agencies and organizations regarding student and safety issues, and information management
  • Coordinates professional development and collaboration for cafeteria playground activity leaders and campus supervisors
  • Communicates with employees, parents, and community members regarding student and school safety and climate
  • Attends relevant meetings and conferences, including courses by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to maintain current knowledge of applicable student and school safety and security laws and procedures
  • Maintains records, and prepares and submits reports as required by law and as directed; applies for related grant/funding opportunities
  • Models personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
