About The Position

We are open to hiring either a full-time or part-time team member, depending on the qualifications and availability of the selected candidate. The Histology Mohs Lab Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Moh’s Dermatology department. The coordinator will be responsible for specimen acceptance, labeling, cutting, staining and documentation of Moh’s specimens for microscopic examination by Dermatologist or Pathologist to render diagnoses. This includes various specialized techniques and staining procedures. This position, in partnership with the Medical Director and Technical Consultant, assumes responsibility for meeting all regulatory requirements and ensuring operational excellence in testing.

Requirements

  • Meets the educational requirements for issuance of a NYS Histotechnician or Histotechnologist license by the NYS Office of the Professions required.
  • NYS Histotechnician or Histotechnologist license required.
  • In lieu of this, a NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license, NYS Cytotechnologist license, or NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician license will be accepted.
  • Histology experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Histotechnician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) (HT) or ASCPi (HT) is preferred.
  • Previous Mohs experience preferred.
  • Experience with NYDOH and CLIA regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and directs the daily activities in conjunction with the provider’s schedule of patients to ensure optimal performance, workflow, technical accuracy, and documentation.
  • Performs all tasks necessary in the laboratory.
  • Responsible for the technical performance and documentation of all regulatory requirements, including proficiency testing.
  • Functions as the primary laboratory contact for Mohs procedures.
  • Assists the provider in the gross dissection, frozen section dissection/microtomy, staining, cover slipping, Moh’s procedures and overall processing and logging in of cases.
  • Accessions all specimens, ensuring accurate patient reporting as needed.
  • Maintains accurate specimen identification throughout the entire process.
  • Ensures proper equipment operation and maintenance, quality control, logs and temperatures are completed along with monthly review documented.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of reagents/chemicals/supplies within the department.
  • Orders supplies as needed.
  • Documents reagent lots and expirations dates as needed for testing.
  • Maintains personnel training, competency records, and continuing education as required.
  • Maintains department policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the department is in compliance with all regulatory agencies and requirements.
  • In partnership with the Medical Director, implements a departmental quality assurance program with documentation.
  • Conducts validation and testing of all equipment, instruments, and procedures as needed.
  • Observes proper safety practices in the performance of job duties and is responsible for the proper safety practices within the department.
