About The Position

The HIM Coordinator works with management and staff and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and coordination of activities for HIM with variable shift responsibilities. This position requires a flexible work schedule to meet departments needs. Primary patient contact is only social. Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Requirements

• RHIT or RHIA required.
• Associate’s Degree in health information and/or computer science required.
• Types at least 40 words per minute.
• Minimum two years HIM experience.
• Knowledge of HIM procedures, processes and software.
• Working knowledge of and experience in hospital-wide computer systems, Epic/EMR, Word, Excel with strong computer skills.
• All HIM related functions (including coding, ROI, clerical, scanning, etc.).
• Computer competency, including Microsoft Office, email, Halogen/LMS (learning management system), Lawsson, OnBase, Epic, MModal, Articulate.
• Knowledge of standard office equipment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated organizational skills.
• Project management and team leading skills.
• Sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
• Excellent time management, to achieve maximum productivity.
• Able to prioritize workload and complete tasks on time.
• Must be independent and self-motivated with a sound ability to reason and solve problems

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Previous supervisor/leadership experience preferred.

• Demonstrates competency in utilizing computer functionality to perform job duties and train staff on the following: Epic ROI Module (phone requests, printing, faxing, ROI Inspector. Epic Chart Deficiency Module (analysis, deficiency detective), Reporting function/tools within Epic (Done Decline, Letters, etc.). OnBase Imaging System (printing, faxing, scanning, indexing and quality review).
• Knowledge and use of MModal/Fluency Manager for Transcription.
• Knowledge and use of Halogen LMS/Articulate.
• Assists with monitoring productivity for staff (coding, clerical, other).
• Mentors students and visitors to the department.
• Ensures that all team members are trained to perform their jobs and function as team members. Assists in the development and maintenance of standards. Monitors the quality and quantity of work performed by employees against the standards. Develops outcome measurements and implements a quality improvement program as needed.
• Participate or conducts performance appraisals of staff. Creates and follows employee development plans and may provide corrective action if warranted.
• Participates in the selection and hiring of new staff.
• Supports HFAP and HIPAA directed initiatives.
• Organization and tracking of coding denials.
• Maintains competency, enhances professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences and seminars.
• Attends and updates mandatory training. Attends leadership meetings and leadership development. Communicates with staff organizational information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
