About The Position

This is a time as reported position (18-20 hours per week) that oversees the River Campus Food Pantry as part of Student Centers & Services. Supports students from vulnerable populations by overseeing the operation of the campus Food Pantry, ensuring access to essential resources that promote their success. They are a member of the University Student Life Operations team supervised by the Director of Student Centers & Services. This is a temporary position that runs until Summer 2027.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or higher required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • A desire to work with college students and an understanding of the experiences of low-income, first-generation college students at R1 institutions required.
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills, with strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Interest in working on a team and individually to accomplish department and division objectives required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Valid US Driver’s license required

  • Experience working with college students, food pantries, basic needs services, non-profit management, or social work preferred

Responsibilities

  • Works with leadership to set hours of operation, balancing both the needs of students and the Food Pantry budget
  • Manages the organization of space, maintaining ADA accessibility and ease of access to services
  • Ensures compliance with Foodlink guidelines by completing required trainings and operating within established food safety standards and procedures
  • Maintains required certifications and adheres to all policies set forth from governing organizations (ex: FoodLink)
  • Completes Food safety certification, Civil rights training, and Recalled food training
  • Coordinates assessment of Food Pantry services using established metrics and processes.
  • Stays aware of students’ needs related to the Food Pantry’s services
  • Identifies areas for improvement and solves simple and complex problems facing the service
  • Participates as a member the Student Centers & Services Team in the department and attends departmental meetings, events, and community building activities
  • Develops and manages both the operating and student employment budgets for the Food Pantry (~$20,000) with oversight and approval from leadership.
  • Serves as point of contact for FoodLink.
  • Requests marketing/educational materials.
  • Purchases and distributes food and hygiene products including pick up, receipt, storage, organization, and distribution to students.
  • Sets standards for inspecting incoming inventory (donations and purchased items).
  • Stays compliant with University Sanitarian guidelines.
  • Maintains the inventory, establishes a schedule for when items need to be replenished
  • Oversees all aspects of the online platform used for bag order food requests, including managing and updating inventory.
  • Purchases supplies and logs expenses in accordance with University Procurement Card policies.
  • Updates the Amazon Wish List.
  • Summarizes Food Pantry usage data for campus partners and senior leadership to help address high need students and current campus trends.
  • Participates in tabling and presentation opportunities promoting the Food Pantry.
  • Plan the annual Move Out Clean Out collection drive in coordination with Facilities and Residential Life.
  • Supervises, hires, trains, and evaluates student staff who are employed in the Food Pantry.
  • Utilizes student development theory to enhance the department’s student employment program.
  • Is a member of the department’s student employment committee and supports the office’s overall student employment program through trainings, recognition programs, and other tasks.
