About The Position

The Coordinator – Early Childhood Center is responsible for maintaining and continually enhancing the Early Childhood Center in alignment with LRSD Early Childhood goals, and for the nurture and support of all children and families in attendance. This is an eleven (11.50) month (230 days) contract position, Range 121, plus a benefits package. Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. The role is FLSA Exempt.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or higher in education or early childhood education preferred.
  • Valid Arkansas Elementary and/or Early Childhood teaching certificate AND Administrative credential (Elementary Principal to include Pre-K) or Curriculum Program Administrator preferred, or eligible for Alternative Licensure.
  • Willingness to complete and successfully pass TESS is required.
  • Knowledge of instructional pedagogy and requirements for early childhood ages/centers including NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice.
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS), requirements of Minimum Licensing Standards under DHS and Arkansas Better Chance (ABC).
  • Evidence of effectiveness in working with parents and families, students, and staff with success and efficient resolution within a program for young children.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior successful experience in early childhood administration.
  • Prior successful experience in the effective daily operation of an early childhood center.
  • Successfully managed and evaluated early childhood staff (certified and/or non-certified).
  • Passed TESS, required for certified staff evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the management and monitoring of the school-year prekindergarten Early Childhood Center for three and four year-old children in accordance with district and state requirements.
  • Alerts the Director of Early Childhood of matters pertaining to the administration, program implementation, concerns, or needs to ensure a high-quality center is in place.
  • Administers, plans, and oversees implementation of instructional preschool activities which promote developmentally appropriate student learning according to established laws and guidelines of DHS and ABC.
  • Maintains quality status through ECERS evaluations and Better Beginnings requirements.
  • Creates a learning community of children and adults that promotes optimal child development and healthy families; maintains professional familiarity with the children and parents; works with parents to promote cooperation and understanding of the program.
  • Establishes a professional and supportive relationship with staff; works with staff to function as a professional learning community.
  • Ensures mandatory reporting of any issues or concerns.
  • Maintains records of each child’s growth in accordance with requirements; ensures the needs of individual children are met; refers children to support services as needed.
  • Formulates and develops procedures, schedules, and activities related to the Center’s programs and services; develops and implements plans for the personnel in areas related to special needs, recruiting students, and estimating and ordering needed equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in the development of the annual preliminary preschool budget; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data; controls and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established limitations, maintains an inventory of all equipment, furniture and costly instructional items.
  • Evaluates the performance of the Early Childhood staff; interviews and selects employees and recommends transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions, in accordance with LRSD policies and procedures.
  • Establishes partnerships with program staff, family members, board members, community representatives, civic leaders, and other stakeholders to design and improve services for children and their families.
  • Advocates on behalf of high-quality services to meet the needs of children and their families; cooperates with state and community organizations in providing information to the public on the need for research related to effectiveness of early childhood education for preparing children for school.
  • Creates a center schedule to ensure proper coverage and experiences for three and four year-olds during the school year program.
