About The Position

Join the Black Cultural Zone CDC as a Coordinator, Driver! Are you a safe, community-minded driver who believes every ride is an opportunity to connect, serve, and uplift? The Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation (BCZ CDC) is seeking a Coordinator, Driver to serve as the safe, reliable, and hospitality-centered backbone of our fleet operations across East Oakland. This is more than a driving role — you will be a “Neighborhood Messenger,” connecting community members to BCZ’s resources and Hub events while stewarding our fleet with excellence, care, and pride.

Requirements

  • Holds a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record (no major violations within the last three years)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a driving, logistics, transportation, or community-facing role
  • Demonstrated ability to operate large vehicles, including box trucks and passenger shuttles, safely and in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage warmly and professionally with a diverse range of community members, guests, and team members
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, securing heavy cargo, and performing the physical demands of fleet operations
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by community activations and organizational needs
  • Must pass a standard background check
  • Holds or is willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification, Food Handler Certification, and BCZ University Internal Certification within the required timeframes

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement
  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Familiarity with East Oakland’s community landscape
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or another community language

Responsibilities

  • Operate BCZ vehicles — including the box truck, shuttle, and low-speed vehicles (LSVs) — safely and in compliance with the California Vehicle Code and applicable local regulations
  • Conduct thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, documenting vehicle condition, mileage, fuel levels, and maintenance needs to ensure fleet longevity and passenger safety
  • Provide high-touch hospitality during every transport interaction, warmly connecting passengers to BCZ resources, upcoming Hub events, and community programs
  • Maintain a professional, clean, and welcoming vehicle environment that reflects the excellence of the BCZ brand and the dignity of every passenger
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, fuel logs, mileage, and maintenance schedules in alignment with BCZ’s Fleet Management and Safety Policy
  • Provide scheduled and on-demand transport for community members, team members, and materials across BCZ Hub locations, partner sites, and community activation events
  • Support the logistical coordination of community events and Hub activations by transporting supplies, equipment, and materials as directed by the Facilities team
  • Model BCZ’s C.R.E.A.T.E. values and the Ubora Experience in every community touchpoint and team interaction
