About The Position

The YMCA Beyond the Bell Program is an after-school program for children grades 1-5 that provides tutoring, skills development, physical activity, and social engagement. The Coordinator will both lead the program and staff team daily, working directly with children when the program when it is running. The Coordinator will follow the Beyond the Bell structure and curriculum, utilizing a 1 to 5 leader to child ratio, and instilling the Y’s core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and inclusivity. Children will be actively engaged in improving social, numeric and literacy skills while participating in academics, sports, outdoor play, arts, STEM and community outings. Reporting the Manager of Community Programs, the Coordinator of Beyond the Bell involves supervising and supporting a small team, scheduling staff, organizing activities, and being the primary contact for parents and Glenview Elementary School. Responsibilities include procuring program materials within budget, planning for children in grades 1-5, adhering to behaviour management guidelines, building relationships, assisting with educational programming, and ensuring a safe workplace.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience, training, and education working or volunteering with children and youth
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Ability to work individually and in groups with diverse children and their families
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a small team of Beyond the Bell program leaders and one senior program leader
  • Schedule staff and plan/ organize program activities and outings
  • Being the primary point of contact for parent/ caregiver communication and communication with Glenview Elementary School
  • Complete administrative tasks such as timesheet approvals, credit card reconciliation, mileage tracking
  • Responsible for buying supplies for program activities while adhering to budget parameters
  • Provide leadership and oversee program planning for children in grades 1-5
  • Operate the program within the Y’s child behavior management guidelines
  • Build healthy relationships with children, parents, teachers, principals, janitors
  • Being a play partner and homework helper and enjoy interacting with children ages 6-11
  • Assist with implementation of educational programming, including interactive play, literacy, mathematics, science, building, drama, games, team building, daily physical activity, and sports
  • Encourage a safe workplace and ensure policies and procedures are followed
