About The Position

Marist University invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Academic Advising. Reporting to the Executive Director, Academic Advising, this individual will coordinate a coherent academic advising program for the undergraduate student population. The role of Coordinator of Academic Advising in the Center for Advising and Academic Services will assist in advising students in individual and group settings, communication about advising directly with students and advisors, coordinating a curriculum around advising to increase knowledge and skill base, liaising with the School-Based Advising Centers, and administering a series of new, intervention-based practices designed to promote student retention and persistence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Experience with Banner processing, and Microsoft Word suite, including Outlook required.
  • 1 to 3 years experience in academic advising, academic support services, or related field required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work independently, and professionally required.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supporting students through scheduled and walk-in support, with a particular focus on students who are transitioning between majors or academic schools.
  • Organizing and delivering advising skill presentations and workshops for students and advisors to enhance advising knowledge, skill, and capacity across the campus.
  • In partnership with the School-Based Advising Centers, developing a curriculum and a series of user-friendly materials to communicate about advising and academic programs.
  • Collaborating with the Director of CAAS to transition students between advising and academic support interventions when necessary.
  • Administering proactive advising practices and advising campaigns to assure that students who face academic challenges are consistently identified, supported, and communicated with in positive ways to best support their academic journey, including administering relevant technology as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
