About The Position

This position is for a Clinical Pharmacist Coordinator who will act as a member of the pharmacy management team. The coordinator will directly supervise pharmacy personnel during daily operations, including recruitment, promotion, discipline, and termination of staff. They will also develop job descriptions, performance standards, and conduct performance evaluations. The role involves collaborating with other department coordinators, managers, and the director of pharmacy to improve pharmacy operations, including staff scheduling and workflow. The coordinator ensures compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This role requires a strong clinical background, leadership skills, and the ability to manage personnel and resources effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or higher degree.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas.
  • Minimum of 3 years of practice experience as a pharmacist.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergency requests.
  • Perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to integrate knowledge with job situations.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to strongly communicate and interact with all levels of professionals, including but not limited to physicians and nursing personnel, managers, various support staff departments, physician offices, in a non-confrontational manner.

Responsibilities

  • Independently complete all duties of a hospital clinical pharmacist.
  • Directly supervise pharmacy personnel during daily operations.
  • Recruit, promote, discipline, and terminate pharmacy staff.
  • Develop job descriptions and performance standards.
  • Evaluate and counsel staff on their performance, including routine feedback, coaching, and annual performance evaluations.
  • Lead by example, holding self and others accountable to organizational and departmental practice standards.
  • Collaborate with other department coordinators, pharmacy clinical manager, pharmacy operations manager, and director of pharmacy to develop, maintain, and improve pharmacy operations (staff scheduling, workflow, assigned duties, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures applicable to pharmacy services.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide orientation and training to new team members.
  • Meet the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, psychiatric, oncology, obstetric, chemically dependent, rehabilitation, and skilled-nursing patients.
  • Prepare and dispense drug orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Interpret drug orders and transcribe to computerized patient medication profiles accurately.
  • Maintain accurate, complete pharmacy patient medication profiles.
  • Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products accurately.
  • Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as required by law.
  • Contribute to the quality and effective operation of the department.
  • Supervise and direct pharmacy support personnel.
  • Verify the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ensure pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.
  • Answer the telephone, identifying self and department, and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Answer requests at the window and make STAT deliveries to patient care areas when requested.
  • Continuously monitor volume/workload and assist with directing staff in managing the workload for optimal patient care and efficiency.
  • Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately.
  • File in appropriate locations.
  • Participate in the quality improvement activities of the department.
  • Complete all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
  • Conduct quality monitors, collect data, and complete documentation as assigned.
  • Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized.
  • Keep pharmacy equipment and areas clean, neat, and well-organized.
  • Identify and replace outdated and unusable drugs.
  • Perform all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
