About The Position

Bartlett Regional Hospital is seeking a Cook to join their Dietary team. This is a casual position. The Cook 1 is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold meals for patients and residents requiring therapeutic diets, cafeteria customers, and catered events, ensuring compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and dietary standards. The Cook 2 serves as a leader, coordinating daily kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food preparation, sanitation, customer service, and staff performance. The Cook 2 provides guidance and support to kitchen staff, assists with problem-solving and workflow coordination, and acts as the departmental leader in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor or Director.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Cook 1: One (1) year of experience as a cook, in an institutional setting preferred
  • Cook 2: Three (3) year of experience as a cook, in an institutional setting preferred
  • Cook 2 Substitution: One (1) year experience as a Cook 1
  • Must obtain a State of Alaska Food Workers Card or Serve Safe within 30 days of hire.
  • Cook 2: Must obtain Certified Food Protection Manager within six (6) months of hire.
  • All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to the start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Institutional setting experience preferred for Cook 1 and Cook 2.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold meals for patients and residents requiring therapeutic diets, cafeteria customers, and catered events.
  • Ensuring compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and dietary standards.
  • Maintaining quality, consistency, and customer service excellence.
  • Supporting the efficient operation of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
  • Assisting with meal production, proper food handling, and inventory control.
  • Coordinating daily kitchen operations (Cook 2).
  • Providing guidance and support to kitchen staff (Cook 2).
  • Assisting with problem-solving and workflow coordination (Cook 2).
  • Acting as the departmental leader in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor or Director (Cook 2).
  • Implementing policies, monitoring compliance with sanitation and safety requirements, and maintaining production and quality standards (Cook 2).

Benefits

  • In lieu of fringe benefits, Casual employees will receive a $2.00 per hour differential in addition to their hourly rate.
