About The Position

Aspira Hygate Waterloo is seeking a Cook to join their team. This role involves preparing nutritious, high-quality meals while understanding residents' dietary needs, preferences, and cultural considerations. The Cook will contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences that support residents' health and well-being, and be a strong contributor to the home's culture, focusing on helping residents live fully every day.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience preparing meals and snacks in a fast-paced kitchen, following recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines.
• Understanding of meeting prescribed dietary requirements, proper food temperatures, and portion control while maintaining high quality standards.
• Grade 12 minimum education required.
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit.
• Must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks.
• Gain an understanding of residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and cultural considerations.
• Contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences.
• Monitor quality of food supplies received and advise team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action.
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers.
