The Cook prepares meals according to approved menus and recipes, taking into account the special dietary needs of residents living in the community. In the absence of the Dining Services Director, the cook supervises dietary staff to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen at all times. The role involves preparing and presenting menu items, maintaining a clean work area, monitoring equipment and temperatures, managing food storage and waste, and making appropriate menu substitutions with approval. The cook is also responsible for ensuring the kitchen is ready for meal service and for the next day's operation when working the evening shift. A key aspect of the role is becoming familiar with residents' specific requests and dietary needs, and reporting any changes. The cook must be courteous and polite to all residents, visitors, and staff, and follow confidentiality policies. Additionally, the cook may assist in training new dietary employees and conduct in-services as directed.
