About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and preparing meals for children in a summer camp setting. The cook will manage menu planning, food ordering, inventory, cleaning schedules, and meal delivery. The role requires adherence to food safety regulations, budget guidelines, and YMCA policies. The cook must also maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, complete required training, and interact positively with staff and program members.

Requirements

  • Compliance with Act 33, including Child Abuse History (Form CY-113), Criminal History (Form SP4-164), FBI fingerprinting, and NSOR clearance.
  • Ability to work professionally and cooperatively with staff.
  • Capacity to interact pleasantly and friendly with members from infant to adult.
  • Knowledge and skills regarding the proper and safe use of cleaning and other chemicals for YMCA purposes.
  • Experience in the practical matters of cleaning and light maintenance.
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Current physical and TB test, CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and mandated reporter training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Have, or be in the process of obtaining, Serv Safe certification.
  • Biennial physical examination and initial TB (Mantoux) Test, and freedom from any infectious or communicable disease.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver’s License.
  • Must be able and willing to travel for work-related reasons on a regular basis.
  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Experience in the food service industry desired.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop a monthly cycle menu for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack, considering children's preferences, seasonal variations, and nutritional requirements for CACFP reimbursement.
  • Expose children to new foods and different preparations of familiar foods.
  • Ensure meals contain required food components for reimbursement and include baked items and fresh fruits/vegetables frequently.
  • Create and maintain a cleaning schedule for food storage areas and carts.
  • Deliver meals to classrooms prior to scheduled mealtimes.
  • Return meal carts and dishes to the kitchen after mealtimes.
  • Wash all dishes using the dishwasher.
  • Return all dishes to appropriate storage areas.
  • Maintain an inventory of food items and paper goods.
  • Order food items and paper goods within monthly budget guidelines.
  • Assist the department by subbing for other employees as requested.
  • Maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, staying up-to-date on required trainings and familiar with associated hazards.
  • Document all training within 24 hours of completion.
  • Keep accurate records of lunches purchased by other branches.
  • Follow policies and procedures established by the Williamsport Branch YMCA.
  • Relate to members of the programs and the YMCA's mission statement.
  • Be flexible in duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and as needed.
  • Follow the appropriate dress code.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and Policy and Procedure Manual.
