About The Position

This is a per diem (casual) Cook position at the Scripps Mercy campus in Chula Vista. The role provides coverage for paid time off, leaves of absence, and other departmental needs. The employee must be available for varied shifts, with start times based on department needs, and a varied schedule that includes weekends. The Cook team coordinates and prepares high-volume meals for patients, the cafeteria, catering, and special events. The role supports food service operations including safe food handling, volume food production, menu development and modification, meal assembly and portion control, inventory management, and infection control and sanitation. The Cook follows established policies and procedures to comply with food safety and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
At least 6 months of experience in quantity food preparation or graduation from an approved culinary program.
Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certificate, or ability to pass the Food Handlers Test given by a verified manager or designee.
Availability for varied shifts and schedules, including weekends.

Nice To Haves

Experience in quantity food preparation in healthcare.
ServSafe Certificate.
Formal culinary or quantity cooking education.
