About The Position

Aspira Douglas Crossing Retirement Living is seeking a casual Cook. At Sienna, you will build lasting relationships with residents and contribute to cultivating happiness in their daily lives. This role involves serving Canada's seniors, ensuring they live fulfilling lives with comfort, dignity, and respect. You will be a welcomed team member in a fast-paced environment, making a meaningful difference in residents' lives by preparing nutritious, high-quality meals while understanding their dietary needs, preferences, and cultural considerations. You will contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences that support residents' health and well-being and be a strong contributor to the home's culture, focusing on helping residents live fully every day.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience preparing meals and snacks in a fast-paced kitchen, following recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines.
• Understanding of meeting prescribed dietary requirements, proper food temperatures, and portion control while maintaining high quality standards.
• Grade 12 minimum education required.
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit.
• Must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks.
• Gain an understanding of residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and cultural considerations.
• Contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences.
• Monitor quality of food supplies received and advise team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action.
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers.
