About The Position

This is a full-time Cook position with a shift from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm, including rotating weekends. The role involves producing and cooking food according to established menus, recipes, and portions, ensuring timely meal preparation and proper food temperatures. The Cook is responsible for maintaining food handling, safety, and sanitation standards, as well as setting up and breaking down the cook line, keeping the work area clean, and ensuring the quality and visual presentation of food. The position also requires assisting other associates, exhibiting a cheerful and helpful demeanor, and adhering to CJE SeniorLife standards and policies.

Requirements

  • Associate must pass Illinois Food Handler Course within 60 days of hire.
  • Three attempts will be provided to pass this course within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Must meet state and local health requirements for food handlers.
  • Must possess valid food handlers permit.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Displays behavior that creates a customer service culture at CJE by understanding the needs of our clients and customers and demonstrating a strong bias toward service, quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Frequently required to stand on a tile floor for extended hours and maneuver independently and safely around work area.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher and to manipulate kitchen equipment, including slicer, chopper, processor, knives, etc.

  • Two to three years related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all state and local health codes for food handling.
  • Adhere to the personal hygiene policy.
  • Attend all required training, in services, and staff meetings.
  • Meet all department training standards through regulatory training and/or other necessary training modules as required.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and coworkers.
  • Follow safety precautions to prevent accidents in food preparation according to the accident prevention in food preparation and prevention of back injury policy.
  • Affect budgets by avoiding waste of products and time.
  • Strive to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Produce and cook food according to menus, recipes and portions established by Chef.
  • Ensure all meals are produce on a timely manner and line is ready 30 prior to each meal period.
  • Ensure proper food and equipment temperature are maintain day according to guidelines.
  • Ensure pre-meal tasting plates are ready for all pre-shift meetings.
  • Operate applicable kitchen equipment, with working knowledge of food items.
  • Maintain proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards while preparing food, serving food and clean-up.
  • Set-up and break-down cook line in orderly fashion and transport product to serving area and proper storing as needed.
  • Keep work area and serving line equipment clean and adhere to sanitation cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure quality and visual presentation of food.
  • Exhibit proper cutting skills and knife safety adherence.
  • Assist other associates to ensure all kitchen duties are completed within given time constraints.
  • Exhibit a cheerful and helpful manner when dealing with customers.
  • Ensure that food supply stocks are rotated on a FIFO system and perishables are labeled, dated, and stored properly.
  • Perform all duties in adherence to CJE SeniorLife standards.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of CJE SeniorLife.
  • Adhere to all directives, policies, and procedures of the local community.
  • Adhere to specifications and guidelines established by chef/director and perform other duties as assigned.
