About The Position

This is an on-call, temporary position where the Cook will help with food service and preparation, ensuring students' meals are wholesome, nutritious, and appetizing. The role involves setting up serving lines, ensuring staff are prepared, assisting in meal preparation and service, monitoring the food service line, conducting temperature checks, maintaining food inventory, requesting additional food as needed, and assisting in preparing weekly/monthly food service reports. The Cook will also maintain daily records of food costs and usage. The position is with Iroquois Job Corps, a residential career training program for young people.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of work-related experience in a cafeteria/food service setting
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, or supervise the food preparation or cooking activities.
  • Proven knowledge of all aspects of food handling, preparation, cooking and good nutrition.
  • Knowledge of quantity food production and service techniques.
  • Knowledge of food safety/sanitation compliance regulations and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Helps with the food service and preparation, while ensuring students’ meals are wholesome, nutritious and appetizing.
  • Ensures that serving lines are set up at the appropriate time for the meal period.
  • Ensures food service staff are at their designated area and prepared for the meal.
  • Assists in the preparation and service of daily meals.
  • Monitors the food service line during each meal and conducts temperature checks of each food item.
  • Maintains inventory of food items and requests additional food as necessary.
  • Assists in preparing weekly and monthly food service reports.
  • Maintains daily records of food costs and usage of food.
