About The Position

Sylvan Shores Health and Wellness is hiring a Cook in Skilled Nursing / Healthcare in La Porte, Texas. The Cook handles and prepares food in a sanitary manner and prepares or directs the preparation of food according to standardized recipes and special diet orders. The role plans food production around meal service times and helps ensure food quality, temperature, and appearance are maintained. The Cook also determines the food and supplies needed for daily menus and obtains supplies from storage in time for meal production. Full-time schedule.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
• Ability to understand measurements and conversions.
• Ability to plan and organize work and interpret instructions, recipes, specifications, and standards.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED is a plus.
• At least one year of prior food-preparation experience in long-term care is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle and prepare food in a sanitary manner.
• Prepare soups, stocks, sauces, and boiled, braised, and roasted items according to standardized recipes.
• Prepare and serve sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed, and baked items according to standardized recipes.
• Prepare or direct preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders.
• Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours while preserving food quality, temperature, and appearance.
• Determine the amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and obtain supplies from storage areas in time for meal production.
• Maintain dependability and punctuality as outlined in the Attendance Policy.
