The Cook is responsible for maintaining proper sanitary levels throughout food preparation, service, and storage, as well as equipment and work areas. This role ensures that interventions meet the needs of residents and the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The Cook follows and executes department practices, procedures, and safety regulations to maintain the food service program and services for Heritage. This position requires a working knowledge of cooking fundamentals such as stock, soups, braising, roasting, and sautéing. The Cook coordinates the cooking of foods to ensure quality products for established meal service times and prepares meals for residents, employees, and visitors according to written menus, established recipes, production sheets, and food handling procedures. Adherence to Food Serve Safe guidelines and all food handling and sanitation requirements is crucial. The Cook inspects kitchen and service areas daily to ensure they are maintained according to policies and procedures, and that hazardous areas are properly identified. This role also involves reporting accidents/incidents, adhering to Universal Precautions and Infection Control Policies, and following OSHA regulations for safe work practices. Maintaining a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel and participating in in-service education are also key aspects of this position. The Cook must maintain the confidentiality of resident care information, report to work in compliance with schedules, and demonstrate versatility to work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays. Driving Heritage vehicles for errands and performing other job-related duties as requested are also part of the responsibilities.
