About The Position

The Cook prepares and/or reheats food for patients, visitors, and employees of the hospital following standard recipes and guidelines. This role involves preparing food according to standard recipes and/or standard reheat processes, completing required documentation such as temperature logs, and participating in department activities and meetings. These activities may include orientation of co-workers, patient/customer satisfaction initiatives, cost reduction initiatives, and inspection readiness. Additionally, the Cook completes all general food service tasks as assigned, which may include cashier duties, tray assembly and/or delivery, and dishwashing with related cleaning.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.
1 year of experience in commercial or institutional food preparation preferred.
ServSafe certification or equivalent certification from the Virginia Health Department may be required, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills required.
Basic keyboarding or computer skills helpful for use of automated systems.
Ability to multitask and perform assigned duties.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices preferred.
