About The Position

Prepares and cooks meals for residents and employees of the facility. This role involves pre-planning food preparation, cooking a variety of food items according to menus and special diets, serving meals, preparing nourishments and snacks, and maintaining cleanliness of food preparation areas and equipment. The Cook also plays a role in maintaining temperature logs, directing the activities of support staff, and ensuring professional demeanor and confidentiality. Additionally, the position requires participation in safety drills, in-service training, quality assurance programs, and continuing education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions, with reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Preplan food preparation and meal service by reviewing menu, required diets and numbers to be served.
  • Pull required items from inventory and remove frozen items for proper thawing.
  • Assemble foods and supplies needed for meal preparation and set up equipment.
  • Cook foodstuffs in quantities according to menu, special diets, and number of persons to be served.
  • Prepare soft pureed diets using a blender.
  • Maintain proper temperature of food items and temperature logs.
  • Maintain records of temperature in coolers, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
  • Serve residents meals including special/modified diets and employees.
  • Prepare patients between meal nourishments and snacks as required.
  • Clean food preparation areas and equipment, wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Clean all dietary kitchen areas including floors, cabinet tops, ovens, refrigerators/freezers, and ice machines.
  • Inform supervisor of problems and needs concerning equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and maintain a professional demeanor and report with residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding residents, families, staff, and the organization.
  • Utilize established channels of communications and lines of authority.
  • Report all accidents/incidents in accordance with established System Risk Management policies.
  • Participate in fire, safety, and disaster preparedness drills.
  • Attend and participate in in-service training programs.
  • Actively participate in the Quality Assurance program.
  • Pursue programs of continuing education.
  • Show up for work as scheduled and gets along with others.
