About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation of food service equipment and adheres to food sanitation standards. The Cook bakes, roasts, broils, grills, and steams various food products. They possess knowledge of basic food preparation techniques, including receiving, storage, preparation, and holding of food items, and are familiar with dietary restrictions or modified diets. Responsibilities include assisting in the tray line assembly process, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring a clean work area. The role requires proper lifting techniques, awareness of kitchen safety, and the ability to plan and set up for the next day's operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English/Spanish languages.
  • 2 to 4 years of hospital, nursing home, school or institutional cooking experience.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Certified by the City of McAllen or Edinburg (depending on facility employed) or accredited by the State of Texas and ANSI as a food handler.
  • High School diploma, GED, or Higher Education required; or at least two years previous experience as a Cook considered in lieu of degree.
