About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Part-Time Cook for its Juvenile Probation department. This role involves preparing meals for detainees and on-duty detention staff, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, managing inventory, planning menus, and ensuring compliance with health regulations and nutritional guidelines. The position also requires participation in emergency management activities and maintaining relevant documentation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Working knowledge of federal nutritional and dietary guidelines.
  • Two years of job experience as a cook in a commercial establishment (residential supervision preferred).
  • Good computer skills.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Eligible to obtain Food Handler Certificate.
  • Must be able to lift and stock approximately 40 pounds.
  • Will be required to fill in as needed for full-time staff and some holidays.
  • No felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; no deferred adjudication for a felony within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole.
  • No jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; no deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.
  • Not registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

  • Residential supervision experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares meals for detainees and on-duty detention staff.
  • Ensures kitchen and dining area are clean at all times.
  • Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Plans and revises menus.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate documentation for the National School Lunch Program.
  • Ensures compliance with local Health Department Regulations and Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) health standards and regulations.
  • Maintains records of meals and freezer inventory.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
