About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating daily food preparation using efficient methods in volume food preparation for breakfast, lunch, and snack. The Cook will maintain records required by the Child and Adult Care Feeding Program (CACFP), oversee other kitchen staff to assure they use proper cooking and sanitation methods, and maintain equipment and the kitchen facility according to health regulations. This role also involves providing children with allergies and special diets the correct substitutions, setting tables, preparing food for meetings, and performing other duties as assigned. Additional responsibilities include eating with children as needed, providing assistance with phone and door duties, attending meetings and training, and adhering to confidentiality policies. The role requires the ability to lift up to 40 lbs and bend as necessary, and the individual will be a mandated reporter of child abuse/neglect.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current PA Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Free of Child Abuse/Neglect history as verified by proper authorities prior to employment.
  • Must obtain Child Abuse, PA State Police, FBI Fingerprinting and NSOR Clearances prior to starting employment.
  • Must pass initial and annual physical exam and TB screening.
  • Must meet vaccination requirements set by funding sources.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
  • Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environment.
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification.

  • Experience with volume cooking and serving the public.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all children are appropriately chaperoned and never left unattended in all situations such as facility, transportation, playground, or community outing.
  • Coordinates daily food preparation using efficient methods in volume food preparation for breakfast, lunch, and snack.
  • Maintains records required by Child and Adult Care Feeding Program (CACFP), i.e. food usage, menu changes, menu, inventory, daily meal counts, allergies, ordering, etc.
  • Oversees other kitchen staff to assure they use proper cooking and sanitation methods.
  • Maintains equipment, clean and sanitize kitchen facility according to PA State Health Department, Head Start Performance Standards, and State Regulations.
  • Conducts on-site mini training sessions for staff and parents.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of daily operations and any safety hazards in kitchen.
  • Provides children with allergies and special diets the correct substitutions.
  • Sets tables.
  • Food Preparation for Parent Meetings and evening meetings.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
  • When in assigned center eats with children as needed sharing the same menu, while demonstrating socially acceptable behaviors and manners.
  • Provides assistance with phone and door as needed at the center.
  • Attends evening meetings and participates in job related training as required.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs and bend as necessary.
  • Follows the program procedures relating to confidentiality.
  • Performs overnight travel as required.
  • Mandated Child Abuse/Neglect reporter.
