About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, preparing, cooking, and serving nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules. The Cook ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner, cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances, and maintains an inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner. Key responsibilities include cleaning, cooking, and preparing a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods. The role ensures sufficient food is prepared based on the number of people to be served and that food is prepared in a timely manner as scheduled. The Cook serves food and beverages in a presentable manner, prepares plates for infants or persons requiring additional assistance, and sets tables with plates, napkins, and utensils or sets up buffet lines for self-service. Cleaning of tables, chairs, floors, dishes, utensils, and kitchen appliances is also a key duty. The position requires the ability to meet attendance requirements, read, write, and communicate in English, and to cook, taste, and smell food. Duties usually involve frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting, relieved by lesser periods of sitting. Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year experience cooking food for large groups, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to cook, taste, and smell food.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within 21 days of hire.
