About The Position

The Cook position at Extendicare Vulcan is responsible for satisfying the nutritional needs of residents by following therapeutic menu plans and adhering to legislative requirements for nutritional standards. Key duties include preparing meals, nourishments, and supplements safely and hygienically, as well as directing dietary aids in food preparation and serving. The role also encompasses environmental management, cost management, and strict adherence to occupational health and safety, privacy, and resident/family safety accountabilities. Responsibilities

  • Satisfying Nutritional Needs of Residents following therapeutic menu plan adhering to legislative requirements for nutritional requirements
  • Participating in action planning to address nutritional issues
  • Preparing Meals adhering to legislative requirements for safe preparation of food
  • Meal, nourishment, and supplement preparation and presentation
  • Directs dietary aids in basic food preparation procedures and serving activities
  • Performance management for any direct reports
  • Training dietary aids (as required)
  • Adhering to legislative requirements (e.g., Public Health, WHMIS, Provincial licensing body) for Environmental Management
  • Cleaning, disinfecting, ensuring hygiene and adherence to infection control standards
  • Monitoring food costs
  • Ensuring purchases of food and supplies fit within the budgetary guidelines
  • Managing waste
  • Generating meal revenue from staff meals
  • Controlling inventory loss and theft prevention
  • Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy
  • Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Participate in all required occupational health and safety training
  • Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing, as required by Extendicare/ParaMed
  • Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor
  • Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk
  • Respect and preserve the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times
  • Adhere to Extendicare’s Code of Business Conduct and Standards of Employee Conduct policies
  • Carry out all duties assigned within the scope of their job in compliance with applicable legislation, standards and company policy in the interest of the safety of residents and family members
  • Refrain from any conduct that puts residents and family members at risk
