The Cook prepares and serves food, including texture-modified and therapeutic diets, according to the facility menu. This role involves preparing food in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures, under the direction of the Dining Services Director or Chef, to ensure quality food service. The Cook assists in ensuring proper receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures are followed. The position requires the ability to read, speak, and understand English, follow directions, complete tasks, and adhere to time schedules for meal preparation and serving. A neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance is necessary. The role demands dependability, experience with quantity food production methods, general knowledge of nutrition, and the ability to read and apply food tray card requirements. Strong written and oral communication skills, knowledge of quantity food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements, and the ability to interact positively with residents, clients, personnel, and the public are essential. The Cook must be able to work around food and cleaning products and must reside within the service area.
