About The Position

The Cook is responsible for the preparation of all food items as per standardized recipes. This role involves preparing a variety of dishes including soups, stocks, sauces, sauteed, fried, grilled, steamed, and baked items. The Cook must ensure food production aligns with meal serving hours to maintain excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance. Additionally, the Cook determines food and supply needs and ensures timely procurement from storage. The role also requires maintaining a safe and sanitary workstation, adhering to hygiene standards and dress code, and participating in in-service training. A strong focus on hospitality and wellness is expected, aligning with the Community's culture of warm interactions, respect, anticipating needs, and promoting a healthy community environment across all dimensions of wellness.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Ability to understand measurements and conversions.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all soups, stocks, sauces; boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes.
  • Prepares and serves all sauteed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders.
  • Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
  • Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and seeing that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.
  • Maintains assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
