About The Position

The Cook serves as a team lead and assists with preparing, seasoning, and cooking a wide variety of foods, including meats, vegetables, soups, breakfast dishes, and other food items. The role is based onsite at The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Corporation and is per diem, with a rotating work shift. Patient care is not required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five to seven years of experience working as a cook.
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Ability to prepare and bake a variety of pastries, rolls, and other baked goods.
• Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
• Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
• Organizing and coordinating skills.
• Ability to accept receipt of goods and supplies.
• Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.

Responsibilities

• Receive food ingredients and supplies from the main kitchen and pantry as needed for daily operations.
• Review production schedules to determine food preparation needs and assemble required supplies and equipment.
• Prepare and display a variety of foods, including vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, salads, simple pastries and breads, and cereals, following recipes and using a range of cooking methods.
• Test food during cooking for quality.
• Complete production sheets and other required records.
• Maintain clean work areas, utensils, and equipment.
• Cater special events as required.
• Address day-to-day issues involving equipment and food supplies, and identify and ensure disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies or equipment, and unusual conditions.
• Prepare special diets according to prescribed standards.
• Record inventory and/or order stock.
