About The Position

As the Cook, you will be responsible for daily meal preparation, planning, and service for various programs within the building. You will ensure a safe and clean operational environment in the kitchen, and your role is crucial in carrying out the Mission of The Salvation Army. This is a part-time position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred.
  • Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
  • Kitchen Experience Preferred.
  • Prefer a valid driver’s license to maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.
  • SERV Safe Food handler certification required within 6 months.
  • Any further trainings required by The Salvation Army and the Board of Health.
  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in using industrial and typical Kitchen equipment and supplies (i.e.: washing machine, garbage disposal, 3-compartment sink, mop, bucket, broom, dustpan, trash bags, cleaning supplies, towels, apron, hair net, gloves, etc.).
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds.
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.
  • May require standing for extended periods.
  • Local travel may be needed.
  • Work is performed in an industrial kitchen environment; Working conditions may include occasional exposure to chemicals and dust. Standard safety precautions needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals at assigned times: M-F 9am-1pm.
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with SERV Safe standards.
  • Assist with Meal Service.
  • Label and Date foods in refrigerator and freezers according to SERV Safe standards.
  • Work with Pantry Coordinator to oversee donation pickups: Pantry Pal’s, Papa Johns, Walmart, Kroger, Starbucks, Linnies, and Panera. Other donations as they may arise.
  • Always wear appropriate attire and equipment for safe food handling (Apron, Hair Net, Gloves, Clean Attire, Closed Toed, non-skid shoes).
  • Set monthly menus.
  • Monitor Dining room donation distribution.
  • GIK Report tracking and monthly submission to Corps Officer.
  • Statistical reporting monthly submission to Corps Officer.
  • Monthly Cleaning: Exhaust hood according to instructions. Floor drains.
  • Daily Cleaning: Food prep and service counters, small equipment, and dishwasher surfaces. Sweeping/mopping floors.
  • Communicate appropriately to leadership and notify them of any needs, including Risk management and property issues.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Maintain attendance.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork.
  • Collaborate with kitchen volunteers and staff to ensure that the kitchen and dining room are cleaned and maintained.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership.
