About The Position

Are you seeking a part time Cook position with a team that puts Hospitality first? If so, you will love joining the team of rock stars at North Oaks, a premier retirement community in Pikesville, Maryland! The cook is responsible for the preparation of all food items using standardized recipes. This is a part-time, non-exempt position with shifts from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, two to three days per week, including rotating Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to understand measurements and conversions.
  • Successful completion of ServSafe certification course.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Compliance with North Oaks Immunization Policies.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and stretch frequently throughout the day.
  • Manual dexterity for preparing food.
  • Ability to use standard industrial kitchen appliances required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently.
  • Must be able to see, hear, and communicate with others.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution preferred.
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all soup, stocks, sauces; boils, braises and roasts items using standardized recipes.
  • Prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items using standardized recipes.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders. Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
  • Determines amount and type of food supplies required for daily menus and seeing that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.
  • Follows all federal, state and local health department regulation when handling food.
  • Maintains assigned workstation in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations.
  • HIPAA Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of protected health information.
  • OIG Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to comply with the federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Interacts with residents and coworkers in a friendly and respectful manner.
