The Cook plays a vital role in the daily operations of the campus kitchen, ensuring children receive meals that are healthy, balanced, and prepared safely. Reporting to the Centre Director, the Cook is responsible for meal planning, food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, inventory management, and dietary accommodations. Requirements

  • High School Diploma (OSSD or GED) required
  • Minimum 1–2 years of cooking experience, preferably in a childcare, healthcare, or institutional setting
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certification
  • Strong understanding of nutrition, food safety, and allergy protocols
  • Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide
  • 2 Step TB
  • Updated Immunizations (Tetanus, MMR)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Standard First Aid & CPR Level C- Within 3 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare meals and snacks in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide and Ministry guidelines
  • Create menus that reflect allergy accommodations and special dietary needs
  • Prepare and serve meals on schedule while maintaining cleanliness and food safety
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
  • Manage food inventory, place orders, and stay within budget guidelines
  • Follow safe food handling practices and allergy protocols at all times
  • Collaborate with the Centre Director and team for special events or food-related initiatives
  • Support a positive kitchen culture and model professionalism at all times
  • Other duties as assigned to support campus needs
