About The Position

The Cook Helper prepares and cooks students’ meals in compliance with government and management directives at the Flint Hills Job Corps Center in Manhattan, Kansas. The position works varied schedules in 8-hour shifts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current ServSafe (Food Handler) Certification, or ability to obtain it within 30 days.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vegetables, salads, meats, bread, and desserts for appetizing, eye-appealing meals.
• Prepare meats for cooking by washing, trimming, boning, cutting, cubing, or forming them into patties or loaves.
• Cook or bake items requiring minimal preparation.
• Replenish napkin dispensers, plate racks, silverware racks, salt and pepper shakers, and condiments.
• Prepare coffee, tea, and other beverages; set up cafeteria lines and serve meals.
• Assist with storing and inventorying supplies, and transfer food ingredients from storage to the cooking area.
• Clean the food service area, tables, kitchen equipment, and appliances.
• Maintain kitchen equipment in workable condition and ensure the work area remains safe, clean, and sanitary.
