About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting the culinary operations by assisting with food preparation, serving, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining environment. The Cook Helper/Culinary Worker will ensure food safety standards are met, assist students in developing employability skills, and participate in various kitchen and activity-related duties.

Requirements

One to three months food service/preparation or related experience.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
NRA Food Service Sanitation or equivalent/Serve Safe certification.
Valid State Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

Set up and breakdown of serving line.
Keep the dining and kitchen area clean and organized.
Notify staff of items that need to be replenished and restocked.
Rotate perishable items at the end of the shift to ensure fresh product.
Serve students, staff, and guests in a pleasant, efficient, courteous, and professional manner.
Assist with dishes when necessary.
Change and empty trash receptacles.
Maintain a neat and clean appearance in proper attire.
Be familiar with the communication system in the event of an emergency.
Assist with some programming and activity events when required.
Assist workers engaged in preparing foods by performing duties such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding vegetables and fruits.
Clean, cut, and grind meats, poultry, and seafood.
Dip food items in crumbs, flour, and batter to bread them.
Stir and strain soups and sauces.
Weigh or measure designated ingredients.
Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from workstations, stove, and refrigerator.
Store foods in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and food spoilage.
Clean and sanitize kitchen and commons area(s), equipment and utensils.
Segregate and remove garbage, and steam-clean or hose garbage containers.
Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment, using a hand truck.
Assist in inventory of expendable and non-expendable supplies and materials.
Operate kitchen equipment including dishwasher, slicer, mixer, etc.
Know and follow all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.
Work towards meeting performance standard goals.
Follow CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily.
Adhere to required property control policies and procedures.
Maintain good housekeeping/sanitation in all areas and comply with safety practices.
Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulation, Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) Bizzell’s policies and procedures, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.

Participate in PRH mandated staff training.
