About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting the culinary operations by assisting with food preparation, serving, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining environment. The Cook Helper/Culinary Worker will serve students, staff, and guests in a pleasant and efficient manner, while adhering to all safety and sanitation regulations. This position also involves assisting with inventory, operating kitchen equipment, and participating in mandatory training.

Requirements

  • One to three months food service/preparation or related experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NRA Food Service Sanitation or equivalent/Serve Safe certification.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and breakdown of serving line.
  • Keep the dining and kitchen area clean and organized.
  • Notify staff of items that need to be replenished and restocked.
  • Rotate perishable items at the end of the shift to ensure fresh product.
  • Serve students, staff, and guests in a pleasant, efficient, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Assist with dishes when necessary.
  • Change and empty trash receptacles.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and proper attire.
  • Be familiar with the communication system in the event of an emergency.
  • Assist with some programming and activity events when required.
  • Assist workers engaged in preparing foods by performing duties such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding vegetables and fruits.
  • Clean, cut, and grind meats, poultry, and seafood.
  • Dip food items in crumbs, flour, and batter to bread them.
  • Stir and strain soups and sauces.
  • Weigh or measure designated ingredients.
  • Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from workstations, stove, and refrigerator.
  • Store foods in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and food spoilage.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen and commons area(s), equipment and utensils.
  • Segregate and remove garbage, and steam-clean or hose garbage containers.
  • Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment, using a hand truck.
  • Assist in inventory of expendable and non-expendable supplies and materials.
  • Operate kitchen equipment including dishwasher, slicer, mixer, etc.
  • Know and follow all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.
  • Work towards meeting performance standard goals.
  • Follow CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily.
  • Adhere to required property control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping/sanitation in all areas and comply with safety practices.
  • Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulation, Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) Bizzell’s policies and procedures, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.

  • Participate in PRH mandated staff training.
