About The Position

In the role of a Cook or Food Service Worker, you will report directly to the Cairns Café Manager. This team member ensures quality food is always provided with pleasure and is mostly guest facing in a corporate/private restaurant located in Mountain America Credit Union HQ. As a cook, you are responsible for your station’s food preparation, station set up and break down, and excellent guest service. While you will have the support of your team, you will also take ownership of your station’s responsibilities. As a café team member, you will represent the Mountain America Credit Union brand respectfully and professionally and provide customized guest service: every guest, every time.

Requirements

  • 5 years demonstrated experience as a prep cook, deli/sandwich/fast casual, grill cook and/or grocery store deli counter.
  • 1 year customer service.
  • Observable zest for food, beverage, and guest service.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Food Handlers Permit.
  • Demonstrated basic skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook and Word and able to navigate websites.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally and written in English.
  • Must be fluent in kitchen language and common terms including cooking terms and service language.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Desire to work in a values-based organization.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Proactively attempts to solve station related problems and actively improves processes and create efficiencies.
  • Take ownership over stations success.
  • Professional, exercises personal discretion and independent judgement.

  • This position requires manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, and climbing.

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly; occasionally may need to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must demonstrate common knowledge of kitchen and restaurant safety.
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry heavy trays and equipment as well as delicate dishware and glassware.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares high quality food from the repertoire of someone with required experience.
  • Ensures high caliber guest service during each interaction with each guest, vendor, team member, and visitor.
  • Provides excellent customer service, greets guest while in the dining room, take ownership over guest needs, and represents the MACU brand professionally.
  • Learns to work your station proficiently within 6 months with guidance of senior sous chef and manager.
  • Plans, creates daily production list, and preparation requirements.
  • Uses check lists to stay on tasks; takes ownership of station needs and sets up for each day fully and properly.
  • Take orders and serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty.
  • Tastes all prepared food items for quality and flavor.
  • May prepare sandwich meats, cheeses, condiments, and salads using approved production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control.
  • Performs prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables.
  • May stock and replenish deli/cold products and condiments neatly and abundantly as needed.
  • May stock the FOH as needed to support time off.
  • May work the fryer, grill, and serve food to guests continuously for up to 4 hours.
  • Support ordering of station goods through regular communication with management and using systems set in place.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness on your station and in any area of the kitchen you work.
  • Report any concerns to Senior Sous Chef or Executive Chef immediately.
  • Maintains a reasonable knowledge of and compliance of service procedures and standards - including Health Department regulations; always maintains excellent kitchen hygiene conditions.
  • Attends weekly food and beverage meetings to review results, plan for future events and adjust strategies and activities accordingly.
  • Participates in and attends departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs, as appropriate.
  • Prep cooks perform additional duties as assigned that may be outside the normal scope of duties based on the business needs.
  • Comfortable supporting the dishwashing station when asked and supports all Cairns Café or required events.
  • Cooks may perform other reasonable duties as assigned my management.
