About The Position

This position is for a Cook/Clerk within the STMS program, specifically for current Gadsden ISD employees. The role involves maintaining accurate records, preparing, cooling, and serving food in the school cafeteria according to established procedures and manager's instructions. Key responsibilities include operating the Point of Service system for meal accounting, verifying daily deposits, communicating with stakeholders, attending training, and adhering to sanitation, safety, and personnel procedures. This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Must complete each year 6 hours of annual continuing education/training topics as determined by Food and Nutrition Service.
  • Must be food handler certified
  • Employees are given 30 calendar days from the beginning of employee’s employment to obtain the certification.
  • Certification should be valid for 3 years.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stool, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Maintains emotional control under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
  • Operates the Point of Service system to accurately account for student and adult meals.
  • Maintains accurate records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Verifies all deposits for the day.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with parents, staff, and students.
  • Attends job related training classes and workshops.
  • Practices procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment and personal habits to ensure that sanitation standards are met.
  • Follows standards of safety in preparing, storing and serving food.
  • Follows procedures in personnel matters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
