About The Position

Do you want to help create meals that bring comfort and care to veterans every day? As a Cook 1 with the Southwestern Veterans' Center, you will help create nutritious and enjoyable meals for the residents who rely on your skill and dedication. This position gives you the opportunity to work with a wide variety of ingredients and cooking equipment in a supportive environment. Requirements

• Experience in cooking or quantity food preparation; or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
• Must have experience or training in cooking or quantity food preparation.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

Responsibilities

• Use ovens, fryers, mixers, skillets, and other kitchen equipment in accordance with safety guidelines and established kitchen workflows
• Prepare meats, vegetables, soups, and desserts for regular and therapeutic diets
• Clean utensils, equipment, floors, and work areas to maintain a sanitary kitchen
• Record food and supply usage and assist with requisitions and inspections
• Measure, package, and label ingredients and help test new recipes
• Guide Food Service Workers and assist in training new Cooks
