About The Position

The Conventional Safety & Certification lead (SP04732) for the Limited Operational Capability (LOC) branch (SP047) is responsible for planning and managing conventional safety requirements, overseeing implementation, ensuring verification, and supporting certification for the LOC missile. This position is responsible for managing the implementation of DoD Instruction 5000.69, DoD Joint Services Weapon and Laser System Safety Review Processes, at the flight-system and missile level to implement system safety review procedures and process when performing weapon system safety reviews. This position is responsible for implementing policies and procedures to achieve LOC missile safety certifications for missile processing and handling ashore and deployment afloat.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in defense system engineering on an MDAP.
  • Extensive knowledge of DoD Manual 5000.69, DoD Joint Services Weapon System Safety Review Process
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, Standard Practice for System Safety
  • Knowledge of Joint Services Software Safety Authorities (JS‐SSA) Software System Safety Implementation Process and Tasks supporting MIL‐STD‐882E
  • Knowledge of the DoD 5000-series acquisition policies, including DoDI 5000.88 and 5000.02.
  • Demonstrated experience in missile systems design, integration, and verification.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface with OSD, Service PEOs, and FFRDC stakeholders.
  • Active or recently adjudicated Top Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • DAWIA Advanced Certification in Engineering or Program Management.
  • INCOSE CSEP/ESEP certification.
  • Experience supporting nuclear-capable or strategic missile programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal engineer to assess system, missile, and ordnance safety policy and flow down implementable and verifiable missile requirements
  • Lead oversight and approval of contractor safety feature implementation into missile and missile support equipment designs
  • Represents LOC missile equities at Command-level safety meetings and forums
  • Work collaboratively with external partners to assess, support, and document safety features and compliance within the baseline missile design(s)
  • Advise as a safety expert and remain abreast of safety program changes and potential impacts to the LOC missile
  • Support safety certification activities to proof, exercise, and assess readiness for safety certification
  • Support safety certification activities that involve missile and flight-system equities
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks across the system development and deployed lifecycle.
  • Prepare material, support preparations, and provide technical advice during safety reviews and certification activities
  • Work collaboratively with Weapon Integration Systems Engineering (WISE) team to achieve NOSSA and WSSERB safety certifications
