About The Position

The Controls Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment and automation systems. This role requires strong hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, PLC programming/troubleshooting, drives, sensors, and control panels within a manufacturing environment. The technician will work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to diagnose issues, implement improvements, and maintain high equipment availability.

Requirements

  • Experience working with industrial automation systems in manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems (120V – 480V)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control wiring diagrams
  • Experience troubleshooting sensors, drives, motors, and control panels
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Allen-Bradley PLC systems (ControlLogix / CompactLogix)
  • HMI systems (PanelView or similar)
  • VFD programming and troubleshooting
  • Industrial networking (EtherNet/IP)
  • Experience supporting automated production lines
  • Experience with servo motion control systems
  • Experience with coating, laminating, converting, or roll-to-roll manufacturing equipment

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment
  • Diagnose faults in automation systems, electrical circuits, and control logic
  • Support PLC systems such as Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix / CompactLogix preferred)
  • Assist engineers with PLC program updates and control improvements
  • Diagnose and repair issues with: o VFD drives o Servo systems o Sensors and encoders o Motors and actuators o Industrial control panels
  • Support automated coating, laminating, and converting equipment
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems including 120V / 240V / 480V equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings
  • Perform electrical repairs and wiring modifications when required
  • Work closely with production teams to reduce equipment downtime
  • Provide rapid response troubleshooting during production issues
  • Support preventive maintenance and system diagnostics
  • Assist with automation upgrades, retrofits, and equipment improvements
  • Support integration of new equipment and automation systems
  • Maintain documentation for PLC programs, control panels, and automation systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting industrial communication networks
  • Support systems using EtherNet/IP and industrial communication protocols
