About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Controls Technician III to support a leading national grocery and food distribution organization at its San Leandro, CA facility. This is a hands-on, senior-level industrial controls role focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automation and control systems in a live production environment. This role is ideal for a highly technical technician with strong PLC, SCADA, and industrial networking experience who thrives in fast-paced manufacturing settings. Schedule Monday–Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM PST 40 hours per week Onsite only (industrial manufacturing environment) What You’ll Do As a Controls Technician III, you will be responsible for ensuring reliable operation of automated production systems and minimizing downtime across the facility. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, self-directed professional with deep practical experience—someone who can independently troubleshoot complex automation and electrical systems, quickly diagnose and resolve failures to minimize downtime, and collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams on the plant floor. You should bring real-world PLC and SCADA expertise—not just theoretical or IT-level knowledge.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or manufacturing maintenance
  • Strong hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000)
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC, HMI, SCADA, and electrical control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics
  • Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
  • Experience with VFDs and motor control systems
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment (exposure to machinery, heat, electrical systems)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
  • Reliable attendance and ability to commute to San Leandro, CA daily
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (as required for site access)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ignition SCADA or FactoryTalk systems
  • Background in food, beverage, dairy, or process manufacturing environments
  • Experience with process control loops and PID tuning
  • Experience using CMMS systems (FIIX, SAP PM, Maximo, etc.)
  • Siemens PLC experience in addition to Allen-Bradley
  • Technical certification or associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, instrumentation, and automation system issues
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on control systems and equipment
  • Calibrate and maintain field instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, level)
  • Troubleshoot system faults and implement corrective actions quickly and safely
  • Support automation upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control diagrams
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to reduce production downtime
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards (including OSHA procedures)
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system changes and maintenance activities
