About The Position

As a Controls Lead Systems Specialist at Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, you will serve as the on-site project leader. Your mission will be to plan, execute, and complete projects with assigned customers in a safe and cost-effective manner. This role involves performing or delegating tasks such as hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, system and network commissioning, and project closeout. You will be responsible for the overall financial outcomes of assigned projects, including costs, project billings, and collections, while maintaining customer satisfaction and profitable financial results. The position also involves proactively seeking to sell change orders, facilitating communication with customers, ensuring effective warranty execution, and offering work direction to various staff and subcontractors. You will guarantee compliance with regulatory requirements and uphold ethical standards, ensuring safety protocols are followed by all personnel. Requirements

  • Minimum of a technical Associates Degree with two years of field experience or four years of equivalent related experience (for LSS I).
  • Applicable Building Automation Systems design and commissioning experience (for LSS I).
  • Appropriate licensing, certifications, and relevant hands-on experience (for LSS I).
  • Ability to work independently (for LSS I).
  • Strong personal computer skills (for LSS I).
  • Minimum of a technical Associates Degree with four years of field experience or six years of equivalent related experience in the industry (for LSS II).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting (preferred for LSS I).
  • Metasys experience (preferred for LSS II).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site project leader to plan, execute, and complete projects with assigned customers in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Perform or delegate tasks as necessary to execute and fully complete assigned projects including hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, system and network commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Be responsible for the overall financial outcomes of assigned projects including costs, project billings, and collections.
  • Maintain both customer satisfaction and profitable project financial results.
  • Proactively seek to sell change orders.
  • Facilitate communication with the customer throughout all project phases.
  • Ensure effective warranty execution.
  • Offer work direction to subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative staff as required.
  • Guarantee compliance with the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) and applicable local, state, and federal legal requirements and uphold the highest ethical standards on the job.
  • Ensure that Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors comply with all safety protocols.
  • Implement controls and software programming using established protocols as needed.
  • Provide detailed information to communicate design and operation to customers, Johnson Controls personnel, and subcontractors.
  • Actively seek additional work through change orders.
  • Assess the contractual scope of work and the impact of client-issued bulletins, field directives, and/or scheduling changes.
  • Communicate both technical and business-related matters with clients.
  • Manage the selection, ordering, budgeting, and delivery scheduling of materials to be procured for assigned projects via our web-based tool process.
  • Obtain pricing and availability from external vendors and suppliers, mechanical, and electrical subcontractors, including scope, terms, and conditions.
  • Oversee subcontractor payment and billing procedures.
  • Coordinate on-site activities for panel and field device physical locations.
  • Ensure installation adheres to Johnson Controls standards and project requirements.
  • Oversee the loading, device verification, and commissioning of all system controllers as necessary.
  • Confirm complete system functionality and address issues with subcontractors and others to ensure proper operation.
  • Provide precise project as-built and commissioning documentation.
  • Administer costs, billings, and collections.
  • Complete project billings promptly and accurately for clients.
  • Maintain profitability objectives and favorable cash flow through best business practices and continuous improvement metrics.
  • Offer coaching, mentoring, and technical support to System Technicians, Electrical Installers, and System Designers.
  • Provide technical guidance to subcontractors.
  • Ensure that delegated tasks are completed accurately, timely, billed correctly, within budget, and within the scope of the contract.
  • Effectively communicate project status to management as required and deliver monthly forecasts of revenue, costs, and gross margin.
  • Issue warranty letters to Johnson Controls customers upon substantial project completion and ensure effective warranty execution.
  • Develop project plans and coordinate required resources to ensure timely and cost-effective installation and completion of assigned projects.
  • Conduct site-specific training for owner/operators on the total system, either independently or with assistance.
  • Ensure that owner/operators are adequately trained.
  • Provide proper documentation and manuals for system operation.
  • Establish and maintain viable long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in job progress meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers on bundled jobs to deliver cost-effective solutions that exceed customer expectations.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and prioritize the safety of employees and subcontractors.
