About The Position

WSI is seeking a Controls Hardware Engineer to lead the physical design, schematic creation, and prototype assembly of next-generation motion control systems. This hardware-focused role bridges electronic component selection and physical execution, with a primary emphasis on robust control circuits, industrial wiring architectures, and hardware for PLC-based motion systems. The engineer will collaborate with software engineering while taking principal responsibility for electrical drawings, panel layouts, and hands-on prototype builds. The role requires autonomy in progressing multiple projects, communicating and collaborating across departments, addressing technical deficiencies, and contributing to technology strategy. It also includes expert troubleshooting and technical reviews, mentoring less experienced engineers, and supporting field personnel with existing systems. The position is based in Suwanee, Georgia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical design, industrial control panel design, or physical hardware engineering for automation or motion systems.
  • Mastery of industrial electrical schematic software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar.
  • Deep understanding of circuit protection, industrial wiring standards, microprocessors, and sensor integration.
  • Working knowledge of and adherence to applicable NEC, NFPA, and CSA standards and applicable CE conformity requirements.
  • Proven hands-on experience with mechanical/electrical assembly, wire crimping, soldering, and physical hardware troubleshooting using multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience using computer-aided tools to design electrical control systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously while communicating and collaborating across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of robotics, arc welding, and machining processes.
  • Experience designing for high-noise environments.
  • Experience specifying and wiring components in B&R Industrial Automation ecosystems, including X20 systems and ACOPOS drives.
  • Familiarity with collaborative robot integration, safety zones, and end-of-arm tooling hardware.
  • Printed circuit board design and layout experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify low-voltage DC control circuits, power distributions, and physical wiring topologies for multi-axis motion control systems.
  • Create production-ready electrical schematics, point-to-point wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using industrial CAD tools.
  • Lead physical builds, wiring, and hardware troubleshooting for initial prototype systems and test benches.
  • Evaluate and select microprocessors, industrial controllers, sensors, motor drives, and safety interlocks for motion applications.
  • Participate in tooling design teams.
  • Progress multiple projects and tasks according to schedule and budget commitments, identifying priorities, resolving obstacles, and escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Contribute to short- and long-term technology strategies for business growth and technology differentiation.
  • Resolve technology deficiencies in existing systems by researching issues and developing solutions with limited direction.
  • Provide technical mentoring to less experienced engineering personnel.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and provide expert technical reviews and troubleshooting.
  • Support field personnel in troubleshooting problems with existing systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
